Sacred Pathways: Loving God
The Rhythm of Life
By Pastor Gregg Borror
The only thing that never changes is the fact that everything changes! From the very beginning, God wove change into the fabric of creation. His design is for all of life to continually transform.
Take, for example, a tree in front of our little property. It stands among a hundred others, yet people often comment on that one tree. Though it is always the same tree, it is never the same, it shifts with every season, every year. In spring it blossoms, in summer it flourishes, in fall it glows with color, and in winter it rests. It is constant, yet always changing, even now, as its leaves fade and fall.
This is the wonder of God’s creativity: the rhythm of change. It isn’t random; it follows a divine order, the “music of the spheres,” unfolding just as God intended.
We too are part of this rhythm. God, in His immense creativity, has set a path for each of us, shaping us as we grow closer to Him. Our transformation is not to earn His presence—Jesus has already made that possible, but simply the natural result of being near Him. His creative work in us never ceases.
Like all creation, we have a rhythm to follow. However, our rhythm is unique: our beat is the heartbeat of God. As we draw close, our hearts begin to move in sync with His. And while every person is invited into this closeness, each of us connects with God in different ways—some through emotion, some through movement, some through intellect.
This fall, we will explore these different ways of loving God by studying Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas. In it, we’ll discover nine unique pathways for connecting with Him, how we most naturally receive His love and express ours in return.
Fall is the perfect time for this journey. So grab a good book, a warm cup of coffee or tea, and let’s lean into the rhythm of change. For though change is certain, our focus and intentionality can direct it, shaping us to become closer to God than ever before.
